Seniors At Sunnyslope High School See Shakespeare’s The Tempest

Sunnyslope’s Language Arts Teacher wrote the following letter to Act One about the impact of the senior class field trip in March of 2018:

“I just wanted to take a minute to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and Act One for sponsoring our field trip to see The Tempest at the Chandler Center for the Performing Arts. This cultural field trip has become a tradition for our senior class at Sunnyslope High School, and we simply could not continue this tradition without sponsors like Act One.

“Our students were truly entertained, and some even mentioned they were surprised by this fact. We did review the text and shared some classroom activities the week before the field trip, but there are always those naysayers who expect to be bored by theater and the likes of Shakespeare. They were NOT bored! One young man came up to me as we left the theater, and he said this: ‘I came prepared to be bored and probably sleep, but I wasn’t and I couldn’t. I was surprisingly entertained!’ Others echoed his sentiment. Among the favorite characters were Caliban and Ariel, though there was plenty of love expressed for other characters too.

“As a teacher, nothing warms my heart more than to provide students an opportunity to see what we do in the classroom come to life, and the bonus was getting to witness their journeys. On behalf of our students, our chaperones, our school and district, and this grateful English teacher, thank you, thank you, thank you!!”
