Act One Named Finalist For Governor’s Arts Award

Act One is one of three finalists in the Arts in Education Organization category for the Governor’s Arts Award, Arizona’s top arts honors. Act One was one of 10 organizations nominated in the category and was chosen as a finalist at a reception on Feb. 8. The winners will be announced at the awards dinner March 7.

Gayle Shanks, co-founder of Changing Hands Bookstore, nominated Act One for the award. She notes, “Nowhere else can Arizona teachers find such a robust aggregation of educational arts field trip opportunities … Because Act One handles all the field trip details with schools, it frees up talented arts organization educators and staff to focus on producing art and educating students through enhanced field trips, in-classroom outreach and other education initiatives.”

Kate Baker, Act One’s Board Chair, says that it’s a great honor to be recognized as a finalist. “Act One demonstrates in the most direct and personal way that the arts are not abstract and out of reach for any Arizona student no matter what their economic status might be.”
