¡Fiestas! Latin America: Traverse the Americas to celebrate the immense diversity of Latin American cultures and music. Trace the historical roots of instruments made iconic by the global spread of Latin Jazz, salsa, cumbia, and other genres and rhythms. From national street festivals to community rituals, students will encounter Latin American music and dance in traditional contexts. Learn about international recording artists and local musicians who sustain the region’s heritage.
STEM: How Science Brings Music to Life: How do musical instruments work, how are they made, and how can science, technology, engineering, and math answer these questions? Through hands-on experiments and gallery exploration, students will learn about vibration, programming, the transfer of energy, and the mathematics of pitch.
