In-Person Field Trip

Come and learn about the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People, who occupied Phoenix and the surrounding areas over a thousand years ago. You’ll learn about their history, culture and beliefs. You’ll also learn how they connected to the land by digging hundreds of miles of canals and creating an impressive agricultural system. We are not only a museum, but an archaeological site of an ancient village that we now call S’edav Va’aki. Visitors will explore the 2/3 mile outdoor trail and see a prehistoric platform mound, a ballcourt, a demonstration garden of locally grown crops and full-size replicas of the houses that the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People used to live in.

Once visitors arrive and drop off their lunches in a separate room (there is no food allowed in the museum, but bottled water is fine), a short intro will be given to explain more about the museum and the site. If you would like to eat your lunches at the museum, we have an outdoor area with picnic tables (with seating for up to 75) where the class can eat.
