What is the Act One Culture Pass?

The Act One Culture Pass program is a partnership between Act One, public libraries and arts and cultural institutions. The Act One Culture Pass offers library cardholders free admission for two people to participating cultural institutions or theater performances. There are currently Culture Pass programs in Metro Phoenix, Metro Tucson and Sedona.

What is the purpose of the Act One Culture Pass?

The purpose of the Act One Culture Pass is to provide opportunities for everyone in the state of Arizona to have access to the arts regardless of income or economic ability.

Are there Culture Passes in other states?

While there are no programs exactly like the Act One Culture Pass program, there are similar programs available in in several cities including in Boston, Seattle, Miami, Fargo, N.D., Toronto and Winnipeg. The best way to find passes in other markets is to check with the local libraries.

How does the Act One Culture Pass work?

How it works for Museums and Cultural Attractions:

Visit the Culture Pass display at the library and choose the museum/attraction you would like to visit. Bring this card to the circulation desk for check-out. The library will give you a date due receipt that admits two people free to that museum/attraction. This library-generated receipt is your pass and provides you free admission for 2.

How it works for Arts Performances:

Only select libraries carry the performance passes. Most Metro Phoenix library systems that have multiple libraries distribute performance passes from only one library. The Pima County Public Library system distributes Performance Culture Passes at the Loel D. Valdez Library.

Choose the card for the performance you would like to attend and bring that card to the circulation desk for check-out. The library will give you an instructions/voucher sheet that provides instructions to redeem your Culture Pass for free tickets. You must follow the instructions in order to receive your free tickets. You will need to provide the voucher portion of sheet in exchange for your tickets.

How is a Culture Pass "checked out"?

Visit the Culture Pass display at the library and choose the museum/attraction you would like to visit. Bring this card to the circulation desk for check-out with your library card.

Please note: The red cards in the library Culture Pass displays ARE NOT VALID for museum admission and should not be removed from the library. Taking these cards is like taking a book without checking it out. The museums will not honor these passes as they haven’t been checked out through the library.

How many passes can a library cardholder check out?

Only one Act One Culture Pass may be checked out per person or family/household per loan period. The loan period is 7 days. Two Culture Passes may be checked out per person or family/household per month.

Can I reserve a Culture Pass through the library's website?

No. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Most of the Culture Pass library partners list Culture Passes like a book in their circulation system. You can search the library’s online catalogue to see what Culture Passes are available.

How long will the Pass be valid?

The pass is valid for 7 days from the time of check-out and expires at the end of the day listed on the check-out slip. For Performance Passes, the library will give you a voucher sheet with further instructions.

May I use the Pass more than once?

No, Passes can only be used once during the 7 day period. The venue will collect your receipt (or voucher for performances) when you visit or attend the performance.

Are the Culture Passes renewable/replaceable?

Passes are not renewable. Culture Pass library-generated receipts (or instructions/voucher sheets for performances) cannot be reissued if lost.

Do the Passes need to be returned to the library?

No. The receipt/voucher you receive at the library is your pass, and you do not need to return it to the library. You will give the receipt/voucher to the venue when you visit.

Can I use my library card to get free admission instead of a Culture Pass?

No. A valid library card is required to check-out the Act One Culture Pass from participating libraries, but by themselves a library card will not grant admission to participating museums and destinations.

Can I use the Culture Pass if I have more than 2 people attending?

The free admission can be redeemed against your highest price ticket. So, if you come with 2 adults and 2 children, you can pay for just the children.

Are there restrictions on the Act One Culture Pass?

Museum Culture Passes are limited to general admission only. Special exhibitions and events may not be covered. Please check with your destination for restrictions prior to your visit.
