Join Arizonans to Celebrate National Arts in Education Week

Arts in education advocates Act One, the Arizona Department of Education’s Office of Arts Education, Arizona Citizens for the Arts and the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture have joined to celebrate National Arts in Education Week to bring awareness to the importance the arts play in student success. The arts are an essential part of a complete education, no matter if it happens in the home, school or community. Students of all ages — from kindergarten to college to creative aging programs — benefit from artistic learning, innovative thinking and creativity.

When we celebrate National Arts in Education Week together, we recognize the transformative power of the arts and demonstrate our collective support for the priority of arts in education. Please add your voice to our roster of Arizonans who value the arts in education. Evidence of strong and increasing support for this cause will help us advocate for a robust arts education in every Arizona school.

What is National Arts in Education Week?

National Arts in Education Week is an annual celebration recognizing the transformative power of the arts in education. Designated by Congress in 2010 through House Resolution 275, the celebration is intended to bring attention to this cause for elected officials and educational decision makers across the country and to support equitable access to the arts for all students. National Arts in Education Week is led nationwide by Americans for the Arts and celebrated locally by Act One and Arizona’s arts community.

Act One and several organizations are leading the celebration of National Arts in Education Week in Arizona to bring attention to the importance of the arts in education. Through the celebration, these organizations seek to mobilize people who believe in the value of the arts in education to make their voices heard. The desired outcome is increased public and private funding devoted to an arts-rich education that includes educational arts opportunities including field trips for all Arizona students.

How the Arts Prepare Students for Success and Citizenship

Children need a well-rounded education to prepare them for the future, and a well-rounded education includes the arts. The arts are a source of inspiration for students to become life-long learners and artists. The arts are more important than ever to students’ success in the workplace. As important is the role that the arts in education has in developing tomorrow’s citizens. Arts experiences through Act One Field Trips provoke the “ah-ha” moments of inspiration, discovery and belonging where learning begins.
